Make-a-Musical Meme - KEYWORD: Duality
Vittorio Rosco was an Italian violinist, renowned in his small hometown for his exceptional talent and beautiful melodies. They called him a protégé, having mastered music when he was still a child. On his eighteenth birthday he makes a decision. In this late 18th century world, there is but one place for a musician to venture: Vienna, Austria. Here he will endeavour to find a small job and build his way to the top, anticipating one day working alongside the greatest of composers in the court of Emperor Joseph II.
His first day in Vienna finds him taking board in a small inn. He spends the day searching for work, all in vain, and when he complains later to the kind-hearted innkeeper, he offers Vittorio a job cleaning tables in the tavern space. The innkeeper has his son, the eccentric Amand, instruct him on the job. Amand is obsessed with science and theory, with no time for art or music. He jests and laughs at Vittorio’s musical ambitions, deeming his work futile and unnecessary. Vittorio is instantly turned off the haughty youth, even though Amand, insensitive to proper social behaviour, still seems to think they have become friends.
Stumbling upon Amand’s work room one day, Vittorio is struck by the scale of his research and tests. Amand finds him looking through his portfolios but instead of anger, he grows excited, and he shows Vittorio a theory he has begun to construct that may change the accepted laws of basic science. Vittorio watches as Amand struggles to be accepted by society for his extreme theories, being deemed a fool and madman. Realizing they are two sides of the same coin, Vittorio begins to wonder if, in fact, there is more than one way to see something, more than one way to exist, and if it’s possible for an eccentric young scientist and a romantic musician to come together and conquer the society they know.
Definiton of “Duality”: in physics, the principle that a wave-particle duality exists in microphysics in which wave theory and corpuscular theory are complementary. The propagation of electromagnetic radiation is analysed using wave theory but its interaction with matter is described in terms of photons. The condition of particles such as electrons, neutrons, and atoms is described in terms of de Broglie waves.
And I just went from there, lol.
This song is romantic and passionate and sad all at once. Ahhhh, this musical gives me all the feels. It is more emotional than Pregurvic’s musical, that’s for sure. And the music is by Riccardo Cocciante, I mean come on.
Sorry guys. I’ve been feeling nostalgic lately in regards to this show, ha. I just miss it so much.
